Choosing your mat

For an uncovered entrance, choose an All-Weather mat from our Border Loop range. These are made from hard-wearing polypropylene, which stands up to rain and can be rinsed clean with a garden hose. Allow the mat and the surface beneath it to dry rather than leaving it sitting in pooled water.

Start with whether your doorway is covered or exposed. For an uncovered entrance in full weather, choose an All-Weather Border Loop mat — weatherproof polypropylene you can hose clean. For a sheltered entrance, a natural coir doormat gives you a thick, bristly texture that scrapes shoes well. Then choose your size and design to suit the space.

Yes — at a covered entrance protected from rain and direct sunlight. Coir is made from coconut fibre and does not cope well with being waterlogged. For an uncovered doorstep, our All-Weather Border Loop mats are the more suitable option.

Coir is a natural coconut fibre with a thick, bristly texture. It suits sheltered entrances where you want natural texture and a substantial mat. Our All-Weather Border Loop mats are made from polypropylene, a weatherproof synthetic better suited to uncovered areas and able to be cleaned with a hose. Start with the conditions at your doorway, then choose your size and design.

No. Both the natural-coloured and black Border Loop mats are All-Weather mats made from polypropylene. The colour describes their appearance; the material is the same across the range.

That depends on the material, how much foot traffic it receives and where you use it. Matching the mat to your entrance is the best starting point: keep coir sheltered, and avoid leaving any mat sitting in water. Regular cleaning and following the product's care instructions help you get the most from it.

Yes. Send us a photograph of your entrance, its measurements, and whether it is covered or exposed to rain. If your door opens over the mat, include the clearance underneath it. We can help you compare suitable options from our range.

Sizing and fit

Measure the available space in front of your door, including its width and depth. If the door opens over the mat, measure the gap beneath it too. Choose a mat with enough room to wipe your feet that sits comfortably within the entrance and lets the door move freely.

For double doors, choose a longer mat proportionate to the entrance, and check the measurements before ordering. Our Long Black Border coir mat measures 120cm wide x 40cm deep x 4cm thick. Our Long Border Loop All-Weather mats measure 120cm wide x 60cm deep x 2cm thick. Choose coir for a sheltered entrance or All-Weather for an uncovered area, and check the fit before ordering.

Only if there is enough clearance across the full path of the door. Our Black Border coir mats are 4cm thick and our Border Loop All-Weather mats are 2cm thick. Compare the thickness of your chosen mat with your doorway clearance before buying — a 2cm mat may still be too thick for some doors.

Cleaning and care

You can hose down our All-Weather Border Loop mats, then allow them to dry. For coir mats, use regular brushing or shaking to remove loose dirt and fibres. Avoid soaking coir or leaving it waterlogged.

Move it out of the rain and allow it to dry thoroughly in a sheltered, well-ventilated place. Let the surface beneath it dry too. If the mat regularly gets soaked in that position, move it to a covered entrance or choose an All-Weather mat for that doorway.

Brush or shake it regularly to release dirt and loose coconut fibres. Clean underneath the mat as well, and keep it protected from rain and direct sunlight. Coir is best maintained without soaking it in water.

Shake out loose debris or rinse the mat with a garden hose, then let it dry flat. Clear away dirt and standing water underneath before putting it back. Regular cleaning and drying help keep your entrance fresh.

Yes. Loose coconut fibres can shed, particularly during the first month of use. Brush or shake the mat regularly to remove them. If you are concerned about the amount of shedding or the condition of your mat, contact us with a photograph.
